This one I am writing on April 28th and at the time of publication I should be out in camp. It will be the weekend of the Garth Brooks concert and our trip to the states.
I am done week 2 of the new job. I am still loving it so far. I have been all over the place with the one training me getting things for camp. I have done my job a little bit but I am not fully into training yet. We had the week with only 1 day and now I am getting to the end of my 2nd week where I am getting to know the job.
It is hard, and it is complicated but I knew that going in. I was actually drawn to that. I like the fact I am learning so much and I will not know everything this year. That is going to be the hardest part. I want to know it all. It is just impossible. I will still have a lot to learn by the end of the season.
There isn't much eye candy at camp which I am happy about. There is only 1 guy that I even find remotely attractive and he is a retired pro MMA (only 30 years old) fighter who had to retire due to injury. He is the safety coordinator though so he is back at the office. The other guys are not attractive at all. There are a couple from my home town and a few from a town I used to live in up North. In fact one is my sisters ex and one I used to hang out with when I was younger. I look really different and have a different last name so I don't expect the other one will know who I am, that is OK. My sister's ex sent her a message saying he met up with me again. We ran into him in Portage a few year's ago. It's weird how we keep crossing paths like that LOL.
I have had a few compliments that have made my day. Someone told me today I was old (because I knew how to do taxes, and she is <25 i think) when I was checking my people's paper work. I told that to the guy who was training them (the attractive one) and he was like you look young as faaaack LOL. I was a bit blown away at her sassiness and it threw me off a bit but that is OK. The lady who does the same job I am doing (but different) told me what drew her to me the most was my confidence in how I feel(t) about doing the job. I reminded her of herself. That made my day. I have to learn to not take things personally.
I have also been told by a few people that they like my energy. It is positive and happy. People see me coming and smile. I love it. There are a couple that make me feel that way too. One is probably as old as my grandpa. I just love him. He makes me laugh. I am drawn to older folk. We were always taught to be respectful to our elders and older people have some great stories and good experiences.
Camp isn't for everyone but I am strong and I can handle it. This one is more urban (30 mins from the city) so I get a bit spoiled this year but some years it will be more remote. I am glad I will know more what I am doing at that point. I won't have internet so I am going to try and write blogs on my phone, save them and post when I get home but I don't know if that can be done offline. I hope everyone had a great April and will have an even better May!
I need to get another post in soon as so much has happened in the last week. I have a post in drafts but it has changed some so I need to write a new one. Originally this was supposed to post May 6th but I moved it up since I put the other one back to drafts. I move to camp Wednesday but probably won't stay there till the next week.
so excited for you and your new job!! i have loved getting caught up on everything going on with you. you have so much going on and you are handling it like a champ!!
