Updates

Well my last post was a rant again but this one is a happy one :). The day after i posted that post i came home from work and was thinking oh i better start supper. Hubby kept putting it off, after a little while he was like, why don't we go to Subway! Sweet it has been a while since we have been there so i was game. So we had Subway and watched house, was a perfect evening.

Earlier that day i had booked our social! For those of you that don't know what it is it is a big party in a hall that you sell tickets for, have a silent auction, dj, food, alcohol, and sell tickets for all that too and make some money for your wedding, you can make anywhere from 1000-10000 usually, depending on a variety of factors, timing is key, if there is alot of other functions that night yours won't be well attended. Usually they are 4-5 months before the wedding. Our wedding is in june and i did not want a social in the middle of winter so i decided to do a halloween social and make it themed!

How cool is that? I even got 500 tickets printed for only $22. Vistaprint.com is the way to go, seriously. So i have the venue, dj, security & tickets already taken care of. It costs 3-4 grand to put on a social but........ all you need is to sell 2-300 tickets and that covers most of it, not including raffle & drink tickets, so most of the money for that is free.

Yesterday i woke up at 4 am and wasn't feeling too good, but then was able to fitfully sleep and i slept past when i was supposed to get up, and went into work late (i let them know i wasn't feeling good). Today i woke up again at 4 am but i couldn't fall back asleep because i was thinking of the social and how to get everyone there safely. It is 20 minutes from where we live. So here i am! lol.

My step-mom tried to burst my bubble, telling me it was too early for our social and that she has seen 2 feet of snow on halloween, and that our wedding shouldn't be on a long weekend because alot of people like to go camping and to their cabins. Like wtf? seriously, you want to choose camping over our wedding, all the power too ya, don't expect me to have anything to do with you when you return since you have a YEAR AND A HALF NOTICE. If that is more important, fK ya!!! No matter what we pick it won't always be right for everyone, and if you have a legit reason fine, but if ya don't well............

I support everyone, we have went to every social and wedding we are invited too, spending cash at each one so yes i will definately take it personal.

  1. I have never heard of a social. What a interesting idea. Is it a tradition in Canada? Just curious!

  2. She's just going off of old traditional wedding rules. It used to be rude to put a wedding on a long weekend (like 50 years ago!) now tons of people do it. Lol, this will just be the beginning of the frustration, there are so many passe rules and standards when it comes to weddings.

  3. Sweeatpea: Not in all of canada, only Manitoba i believe, it is a huge thing here. They are so much fun.

Kat: that may be so but she was really rude, just completely condescending. I have family coming from so far away that it just makes more sense to have it where they can stay an extra day without having to take off work to do so.My mom is 2000 miles away and she has to stay long enough as it is without pay lol. It would be different If canada day was a REAL long weekend like labor day or May long, or August long but it is not. It's like july 4th, it is only a long weekend 4? of 7 years. When it falls on a tuesday, wed, thurs it's not a long weekend.

I originally wanted to get married in sept, for fall but now i love the date we chose.
