So Friday/Saturday I had a 26.5 hour day. I worked the night shift at MDC and so I didn't get much sleep. I slept for 4 hours only on Sunday as I wanted to check out the cheese shop for my husband but they were closed (2nd time closed when supposed to be open grrr). We got home late Saturday and I think we did nothing on Sunday. I was on such a high after finding out I got the job.
Monday I decided to pamper myself a bit and get Gel nails for the first time and my first pedi in over a year!!! I had bought some sandals at the mall on the weekend and I didn't buy them from walmart! That is huge for me and it felt good. I am used to being cheap, but not by choice. My gram always said I was a rich bitch with a poor man's salary, meaning I had rich tastes but not the money to back it up. She was right, in a way. I don't have jimmy choo taste by any means but I have learned along the way you get what you pay for. Quality counts!
I stopped in at the office and my boss told me he missed me already! With everything combined I was flying high :). I spent 1.5 hours there stopping in to chat with everyone who was gone when I got my news on Friday (they have two shifts so one leaves a bit earlier).
Tuesday morning I went and got my offer. Holy crap you guys. NOTHING could have prepared me for what it was, NOTHING. It completely blew me out of the water. I still haven't absorbed it all yet. It hasn't sunk in. He handed the contract to me and of course I naturally looked for the $$$ part of it. It took everything I had to keep my eyes from popping out. I am not going to list it here obviously but it was more than 2 x what i made last year working 3 jobs (though i was off all of November and 1/2 of December). Most people coming out of university do not get a salary like that.
I will be on probation for 6 months and my benefits were not supposed to be for 6 months but they start May 1st so that is an awesome bonus. My salary is high because in construction you are based on a 50 hour work week, not 40 and they take into consideration that we are away from our families mostly all summer. My salary is based on 2600 hours so if I go over that then I will just take the time off in the winter. We have that trip planned so that shouldn't be hard. In the off season I will only work 8 hour days M-F but in the summer season I could be working 12-14 hour days. On top of that salary I get 3 weeks holidays after 1 year of working, plus the time between Christmas and New Year's off paid. They also have a shut down party in November then a Christmas party.
I am soooooooooooo looking forward to the challenge. The last girl didn't work out for them but I am expecting that I will. I start Monday morning. This week has flown by. I did a LOT of shopping. New make up from Sephora, a new bathing suit that cost over $120 fricken dollars. I have NEVER spent that much on an outfit before nvm a bathing suit. It is nice though, and I wont get tan lines in Mexico. I bought it at a plus size store so it also fits better than the walmart crap. I bought a new pair of Jean's to wear to the Garth brooks concert. It felt good to finally spend money on myself. I do not buy myself much, and if I did buy something from the drug store I would hide it and feel guilty for spending $10.
I can't wait for my first paycheck. It will sink in then. I won't have a day where I work the actual job until Friday. Monday we are putting together the new hire packages then setting up the conference room at a local motel. Tuesday & Wednesday is the orientation for flaggers and workers so I am going to sit in on that. It won't really apply to me but the person training me has to be there so why not. Thursday I am re-taking first aid as mine expires soon.
Tomorrow we are going back to Portage to empty the house, then it is done, really done. Just the thought of going there makes me anxious. I don't want to spend any more time there than I have to right now. My grandma is in the hospital so I guess I will go see her. I don't even feel like I want to. I feel obligated. She never came to see me in the 32 days (total) I was in the hospital but.........whatever. I don't feel the way a grand daughter should (because of all the crap she put me through) but I don't want to feel regret if something happened to her. I didn't talk to my last grandma for almost a year before she passed away because she couldn't carry a conversation anymore and I should have made more of an effort, but I didn't feel the way I do with this grandma with the other one. She didn't betray me over and over and treat me like crap.
Sunday we are going to a hockey game because my beloved team is in the finals again :) Last year on their way to the RBC they swept all 3 series they had in our league. If they win tomorrow they will have done the same this year, with a brand new team and goalie. We didn't have a ton of returning players this year. I have seen them play in 4 other barns so it will be cool to see a new barn but this is a hard community. Their fans are very very loyal for the team only having been here for 6 years now. They aren't as friendly or welcoming as our fans are I have heard.
Then.............then it is Monday. Holy crap, went fast but soooooooooo slow up till I heard I got the job.
I stopped back at the office on Wednesday when I was in town and one of the girls who is new on the assessment side told me I was glowing, and I bet I am!
I have a lot to do for the festival too and turn down another committee that wants me because I can't guarantee I will be around the weekend of their fair. I was hoping to do both but my 1st loyalty is my town one. They are also giving me a cell phone and a laptop to do my work with. When in camp there won't be Internet or phones so these will be work lifelines. I hope it is a brand new phone. I can then cancel my phone and not pay no contract. It would be nice, because up here a decent plan is $80. They are way more expensive here than in the states.
Our trip to ND is in 3 weeks, that went fast too. Sooooooooo many good things going on. It's about time this happened for me, I have been waiting a long time!
